Las Vegas, an excessive city…

As you was able to read here, I decided to go to Las Vegas, for the DefCon 2008. So during (only) one week, I went to United States of America, my first time in this country.

Aletsch Glacier, Switzerland is beautiful….

A childhood friend, Martin, suggests me to go to Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps, with him. Martin takes up Randomanie, a website who organizes treks in Switzerland, and France too.

So Jean-Baptiste and me went there, it was a great trek, I really would like to thank Martin for his organization. He has published a summary on his website.

As usual, you can find my pictures on my dedicated gallery.

SSTIC 2008

Few alcoholic days in Porto…

Short feedback about my trip to Porto. As two years ago when I went to Kiev with my firefighters team, this time we choose the second biggest city in Portugal.
Why this city ? Because we have two Portuguese in our team !

We have visited different places, but every time with a glass of wine or Porto. So I almost tried every kind of wine or alcohol there :)

- A short city tour, included the Adriatic sea coast

- Alvaro Land, the small village of our Portuguese member team

- A cruise over Douro river

- And many wineries : Mateus, Graham’s, …

In the center of the city, I’ve found a very good nightclub : Gare Clube ! I recommend you, the atmosphere is really nice !

The worst thing about these four days : the weather ! Four raining days, only rain ! The maximum period without rain was 43 minutes !
My gallery is available here, but the pictures are not so good, because of the weather…

Prague, a nice city

During three days, I have visited the capital city of Czech Repubic, Prague. It was also a good opportunity to see again a friend, Lena from Ukraine.

We have visited different touristic place, as you can see on pictures. We saw typical swiss wind instruments, the Alphorn :)
Please don’t visit this city during the high season, it’s too crowded !

Naru, and his first time in Switzerland

After Chris last year, a second friend, Naru from Japan, has visited me in Switzerland during few days. We travelled a lot in only 4 days, he was tried every night, but I’m sure he really enjoyed his trip in my country.

I was very happy to receive him, I tried to do my best after he received me in Japan last year.

You can find few pictures from Leysin, where we did mountain biking with my brother.

Who is the next visitor ? :)

China, another world

After my great trip in Japan last October, I decided to go to China during almost one month with three friends (Jean-Baptiste, Joël and Cédric). The World talk about China, everybody want to make business with China, because China is becoming more important every day.

After that, how do you don’t want to go to China ?

BlackHat 2007 in Amsterdam

With two friends, I decided to go to an IT security conference last Feburary. It is the first time for us. We chose BlackHat Europe 2007. The conference is splitted into two parts : training and briefings. Unfortunately, we were not able to follow both, so we booked a different training each. I chose a training about Web Security : Web Application (In)Security.

During two days and two nights, I have been in Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands. My hotel, Mövenpick was very good.

I met people from different companies and countries. It was very interesting. I will try to post an article soon about my training…

Great weekend in Crans-Montana

You will tell me…one more weekend in Crans-Montana..and I will answer you…that’s true, but different :) I invited two friends (Thi and Thao), who have never been to the Swiss mountains. They work with me in the same company, but in Vietnam. During one month, they are staying in Switzerland, in the same office than me.
So it was a good opportunity for them to discover a new region (Valais) in Switzerland, to see new sightseeing views, to eat new food (Thao : how was the snow ? ;) ) and to try new drinks (not really :).
We did snowshoe near Crans. It was also the first time for me in Crans, so I discovered few places that I have never been in skiing or snowboarding. Lucky, because the weather was very good !
I’ve really enjoyed this weekend, great moment, lot of fun ! Thank you for them to accept my invitation [1]
They also cooked a small soup at evening, so I would like to thank them for it, good opportunity to try some vietnamese food ;)
A new idea for my next trip…

Notes

[1] For your information, they are so busy, many colleagues wanted to invite them ;)

Visit of Lucerne

Today, I took a day off to apply for my chinese visa. I need one for my next trip in China. So I went to Berne, because the embassy of China is there.
After 1 and 1/2 hour in train, and 30 minutes by walk in 15 cm of snow, I found the embassy in the end. The room is too small, so many people, and the chinese guy was too slow. I hope you don’t have to go there once :) My friend will return there soon to take our visas, because it’s impossible to the visa by post….welcome to China and their rules !

After that, it was a good opportunity to stay in the Swiss-German part, so I decided to go in Lucerne (1 hour by train from Berne).
I spent half day with Corinne, a friend who live near Lucerne. It was my first time in Lucerne, very nice small city. I think this city is one of the most touristic city in Switzerland. We saw so many tourist, especially Chinese people (hmm) !
I really liked my time there, happy to see her again ! I will return this summer to make a cruise on Lake Lucerne…and I will visit Grutli, the place where Switzerland was born in 1291.
